Misty May was Born on July 30, 1977 is the daughter of Bob "Butch" May, he is a member of the US volleyball team way back in 1968 and prominent beach volleyball player, and her mother Barbara May, she is a nationally-ranked tennis player who later transitioned to beach volleyball She has two brothers named Brack and Scott, and her first cousin is tennis player Taylor Dent.

In 2002 her mother barbara was died by cancer which misty put a dedicated tattoo on her shoulder it's an angel with an initial of B.M meaning barbara may in loving memory of her mother and a roman catholic number five tattoo on her lower to represent friendship with superstar basketball guard jason kidd which wear a number five jersey and a flower design tattoo on her right wrist she also reported that she has her grandmother initials on her arm as a tribute to her.
